Privacy Policy

MotoHood Rides ("MotoHood," "we," "us," or "our") operates the MotoHood Rides mobile application (the "App"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.

By using the App, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this policy.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Information you provide directly

• Phone number — used to verify your identity via one-time password (OTP) during sign-up and login.
• Profile information — your name, and optionally a profile photo and bike details (brand, model, engine capacity) that you choose to add.
• Ride and chat content — messages you send in ride group chats, rides you create or join, and ratings/feedback you give after a ride.

1.2 Information collected automatically

• Location data — while you are participating in a live ride with location sharing enabled, we collect your real-time GPS location so it can be shown to other riders in that same ride. Location sharing is tied to active rides; we do not track your location when you are not in a live ride.
• Usage data — basic app usage information (e.g., screens visited, features used) that helps us understand how the app is used and fix problems.
• Device information — device type, operating system version, and app version, primarily for crash reporting and compatibility.

1.3 Information from third parties

We use the following third-party services, which may process data on our behalf:

• Firebase (Google) — authentication, database (Firestore), and (once enabled) file storage.
• Google Maps — for map display and route rendering.
• OSRM / Nominatim — open-source routing and location search services used to calculate routes and look up place names.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

• Verify your identity and secure your account.
• Show your live location to other riders in the same ride, for as long as that ride is active and you have location sharing on.
• Enable ride creation, joining, chat, and group coordination features.
• Calculate and display ride statistics (distance, speed, ride history) tied to your profile.
• Send you ride-related notifications (e.g., upcoming ride reminders, chat messages, ride status changes).
• Maintain and improve the app, including diagnosing technical issues.

We do not sell your personal information to third parties. We do not use your location data for advertising.

3. Sharing of Information

• Other riders in your ride can see your live location, name, and profile information for the duration of a shared ride, and your ride statistics as visible on your profile if you have discoverable profiles enabled.
• Service providers (Firebase/Google, mapping and routing services) process data as necessary to provide the app's functionality, under their own privacy and security terms.
• We may disclose information if required by law, or to protect the safety of our users.

4. Your Choices and Rights

• Discoverable profile — you can opt out of appearing in "riders near you" discovery at any time in your profile settings.
• Location sharing — you can turn off location sharing during a ride, though this will limit other riders' ability to see you on the live map.
• Account and data deletion — you may request deletion of your account and associated data by contacting us. We will process deletion requests within a reasonable time, except where we are required to retain certain information by law.
• Access and correction — you can review and edit most of your profile information directly in the app.

If you are a resident of India, you have rights under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDPA), including the right to access, correct, and request erasure of your personal data, and to withdraw consent at any time.

5. Data Retention

We retain your information for as long as your account is active, or as needed to provide the app's features (e.g., ride history, statistics). If you delete your account, we will delete or anonymize your personal data within a reasonable period, except where retention is required for legal or safety reasons.

6. Data Security

We use industry-standard practices (including Firebase's built-in security infrastructure) to protect your data. However, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

7. Children's Privacy

MotoHood Rides is not intended for use by anyone under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect information from minors. If we learn we have collected data from a minor, we will delete it.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by updating the "Last updated" date, and where appropriate, through an in-app notice.
